ABSTRACT EXPOSURE PROSPECTUS

January 2009 Online Juried Exhibition
Abstract EXPOsure is currently accepting submissions for the January 2009 exhibition. The application deadline is December 15, 2008. Fifteen artists will be chosen at the end of December for the exhibition and their work displayed online until March 2009. Only ABSTRACT work in DIGITAL format will be accepted for the exhibition, as detailed in the paragraphs below.

Abstract EXPOsure
Abstract EXPOsure is a quarterly online juried exhibition for abstract artists only. Sculpture, painting, mixed media, photography and installations are acceptable types of art, but they must be abstract. Abstract EXPOsure will not accept any representational artwork.

Abstract EXPOsure was created in direct response to the lack of an exclusive abstract venue and functions as an online international gallery-without-walls. Committed to actively promoting abstract artists and their work, Abstract EXPOsure celebrates the vibrations of the soul through a unique platform. Knowing that there are many artists who engage the abstract voice, Abstract EXPOsure aims to use the current technology and accessibility of the World Wide Web to breathe life into the abstract genre.

As an online source, the Abstract EXPOsure audience is limitless, allowing the exhibitions to reach both the art industry and general public. Abstract EXPOsure uses online and direct marketing methods to promote the exhibitions and artists to galleries, art consultants, interior designers, art organizations and art buyers worldwide.

Exhibition dates & deadlines
Abstract EXPOsure holds quarterly exhibitions in January, April, July and October. Accepted artists’ works are displayed online for the length of the quarter, approximately three months.

To be considered for an exhibition, complete applications are due on the 15th of the month prior to the exhibit and must be received by midnight on the 15th to be entered. Applications for the January exhibit are due December 15; for April exhibit due March 15; for July exhibit due June 15; and for October due September 15. If an application is received after the 15th then it will be entered into the following quarter ’s exhibition.

Entry fee
The entry fee is $30 for up to four images. Additional images are $5 each. For painting, mixed media or photography, each image counts as one submission. For sculpture or installation, two views of a piece will be counted as one image submission. Fees can be paid online through the application process.

Awards
Best in Show & Merit Awards
Three awards will be given for each quarterly exhibition: one $200 Best in Show award and two Merit awards.

Jurors
Each exhibition will be juried by a panel of jurors that varies each quarter. Only jurors with experience in and understanding of abstract art will be chosen. The jurors will come from different areas of expertise within the art world, such as galleries, design and collection. This provides broad and balanced judging and opens many channels of exposure for artists.

Application
Abstract EXPOsure accepts application online available on the Apply page of this site.

Because Abstract EXPOsure is an online exhibition, images must be in digital format and submitted through the online application. To ensure the integrity of the jury process and create equal conditions for judging, digital images must be submitted at 400 by 400 pixels at 72 resolution and in JPG format. If an image is not square, mask the edges with black to bring the image to the correct square pixel size. This can be done in a design program, such as Adobe Photoshop.

Images will look like the following:

Horizontal image has bands on top and bottom, bringing dimensions to 400x400.   Vertical image has bands on left and right, bringing dimensions to 400x400.

In addition to the images, Abstract EXPOsure requires a short artist statement from each artist, no more than 300 words, to be submitted through the online application. This provides more information about an artist, their inspirations and work for the jurors and future viewers.
